REITA’s Near Term Focus

The conventional wisdom within the global Rare Earth (RE) community is that:

  • China’s RE reserves are not infinite, a realization which will continue to drive Chinese officials to manage its resources accordingly,  i.e. limiting annual output and exports
  • In the meantime, Chinese internal demand for RE materials and technologies is forecasted to continue growing at double digit rates further limiting  the prospects for Chinese exports

REITA and its consortium of member organizations are therefore focused on a variety of actions associated with the need for diversity and security of supply of RE technologies in light of China’s sensible policies to conserve its valuable RE resources for its own internal demand. 

  • Spread the message to global RE technologies stakeholders of the urgency to collaborate to address the issues related to security and diversity of supply of RE technologies
    • Stakeholders span the range in RE technology supply chains and other interested parties, from RE mining and processing through Original Equipment Manufacturers, related industry trade associations, academia and government officials
    • A key prerequisite in this endeavor is a significant research and development initiative that will serve as the foundation for a diverse and secure base of supply of these technologies.  Investment in this area to reinvigorate RE innovation will require training and job creation in RE chemistry, processing and RE technology applications disciplines.
    • As a non-profit corporation and representative for a global consortium of like-minded RE technologies stakeholders, REITA is positioned to take a leadership role in this effort
  • Continue to add global stakeholder organization to the membership roles of REITA’s Consortium – stakeholders who share the goal of diversity and security of supply of RE technologies
  • Help to identify and secure potential sources of government funding to the Consortium members to develop the necessary RE technologies needed to create diverse and secure supply of RE technologies
